The guide I've always needed but could never find
I joke that Rick Rubin’s book started stalking me before my trip to Vietnam last December/January, but honestly, it felt like the universe was trying hard to get me to read it. It suddenly appeared in a local shop, showed up as a personalized ad, and even popped up in the background of random Instagram posts. That’s how it became my holiday read.
While I love exploring new places, I can also get overwhelmed easily. I spend a lot of time researching spots that will help me relax and feel grounded—probably more than anyone I know! It’s funny how I ended up reading this book in exactly the kinds of places I’d carefully picked out.
The chapter on ‘Setting’ resonated in particular and sparked an idea for a minimalist guide to places. It’s something I’ve always needed but could never find, so I’m working on creating some based on the places I found.
